Cumulocity and Software AG accelerate digital transformations with IoT

Earlier today, Cumulocity and Software AG announced a strategic partnership to accelerate enterprises’ digital transformations by development and deployment of best-of-breed IoT solutions. The partnership is the culmination of several years of joint work on enabling solutions for enterprises with extensive deployed assets.

Software AG is a global leader in enterprise software including database management (DBMS), services-oriented architecture (SOA) and analytics. Software AG technology is already embedded in a majority of large global organizations’ enterprise IT systems.

Cumulocity is a Düsseldorf-headquartered leading IoT application enablement platform (AEP) with a global customer footprint and recognition from independent, global industry experts.

The strategic OEM partnership enriches the Software AG’s Digital Business Platform with Cumulocity’s set of sophisticated IoT platform features. Software AG will complete deep integration of the Cumulocity AEP to allow its customers to take advantage of  Software AG’s data visualization and analytics suites and Cumulocity’s data ingestion, device management and connectivity management capabilities. For example, Software AG will enable its customers’ intricate control of IoT devices (e.g., provisioning, firmware management, and audit capabilities) seamlessly using the familiar Digital Business Platform interface.

Software AGs’ existing customers will be able to leverage the integrated Cumulocity IoT platform to more easily facilitate digital business transformations. Because so many global organizations already have Software AG technology in their IT environments, this partnership with Cumulocity will lower implementation risks and decrease time-to-market for solutions including  predictive maintenance, connected customer, smart logistics and smart production.

For Cumulocity, a partnership with Software AG further underscores its leading position in the market and will accelerate future growth by tapping into Software AG’s rich system integrator (SI) ecosystem including Capgemini, Wipro, Cognizant and Dell. The technical integration of the Cumulocity stack with Software AG’s suite of enterprise solutions will further enrich the platform while at the same time reducing the number of custom integrations needed to assemble an IoT solution. For example, customers will be able to take advantage of Software AG’s streaming analytics (APAMA) and Cumulocity’s device management feature set without needing to integrate it themselves. This will lead to a quantifiable reduction in complexity and a significantly faster time-to-market for IoT customers

In the future, Software AG will likely deepen the integration of the two platforms by building a unified dashboard, enabling the entire solution to be managed from a single interface. This will enhance Software AGs ability to bring even more simple, high-quality, digital transformation solutions to the market. MachNation also expects Software AG to provide additional integrations with quality application providers and SIs. These future integrations will leverage the capabilities of the Digital Business Platform to meet the needs of large enterprises as they proceed in their digital transformations. .

The newly-announced partnership reinforces MachNation’s opinion that enterprises will build highly-differentiated IoT solutions using software and hardware components from several leading vendors. It also demonstrates a mature and forward-thinking approach from both Software AG and Cumulocity by integrating IoT platforms with enterprise software. MachNation has forecasted that worldwide revenue for IoT application enablement will be USD1.1 billion in 2016 growing to USD83.4 billion by 2025 at a compound annual growth rate of 62%

MachNation believes that the partnership is a win for Cumulocity, Software AG and their customers undertaking digital transformations. We anticipate that as the industry evolves, collaboration between enterprise software vendors and IoT platforms will become more ubiquitous and an important consideration for enterprises looking to deploy an end-to-end IoT solution.
